Music plays an important role in our lives: we wake up listening to it. We hear it on our way to school; between classes; during the preparation of dinner; basically all the time. However, what does our choice behaviour consist of regarding music? Do we pick a happy song, because we are happy? Or might we become happy by listening to the melody or words of a particular song? Therefore the following research questions remain: What is the correlation between music and a person’s mood? To what extent does the influence of lyrics and melodies differ? The aim of our study will be to determine whether melodies and words are processed independently and how this process affects our emotions. Furthermore, by using EEG we hope to understand the neural bases of processing songs.
